The State of Georgia, specifically Gov. Nathan Deal, are asking for a magical $1.5 Billion for Transportation…
In fact there is Georgia House Bill #170 on the floor of this year’s legislative session…but what is the money for? Is it just maintaining roads, bridges and existing infrastructure? How much of it is really necessary and how much is to study a rail system that’s never financially sound?
…I ask – “What transportation projects, in total, will require the $1.5 Billion”? Do we have a list of projects and their associated costs?
Only one project actually comes to mind and that’s the I-285 & GA400 intersection improvement. And I understand numbers for that project was expected to reach $1 Billion in road improvements (through a public, private partnership) to alleviate the traffic problems there.
If that’s true, then the other $500 Million is either for the remaining roads and bridges in Georgia that are failing….or cost overruns on the I-285 & GA 400 interchange.
Well Governor Deal, what’s the money for?
